I've a small third bedroom which includes a bulkhead - this takes up a lot of space in the room. Has anyone had experience of converting the bulkhead top and building up into a daybed etc.?

I wanted to create something like - http://media.diynot.com/198000_1970...626454&Signature=nbGN8/e9YSxhnnc31fJvgO0sU5w= - , but wondered what regulation there may be on using bulkheads in this way?

Do they need to hold a certain weight and how can you ensure it's safe to sleep on?

Should have been made with substancial timbers so you should be fine to extend and use , maybe with storage below open end? or pull out desk.

Presumably directly below are the stairs? and this is the result of the headroom requirement for building control.
First off is the construction of the building timber frame ...pinenot :)

Thanks for the reply.

What structure/support am I likely to find inside the bulkhead?

Here's an image:

Probably 3x2 or 4x2 timber so usually substancial.
