Cooker hood and ventilation problems in flat

that looks OK to me except that you need a flap to prevent cooker fumes blowing towards the ventilation unit (unless it already has one)

Thanks, it doesn't have one. Does it go on the MEV exhaust duct before the cooker hood exhaust joins? And is a flap sufficient or do I need a electric damper?

yes, between the MEV and the joint to the hood.

I would go for a flap valve.

Keep the filter in the hood very clean so the duct doesn't smell much.
