I've lost reg's during recent move so can someone remind me how to calculate mcb rating, the max demand is 7.2kw and I have a cooker switch with additional socket. The manual says 6mm cable but doesn't mention the protective device.

Cooker diversity is 10A + 30% of rest + 5A if switch has an outlet on it.

Looks like you want the standard 6mm² on a 32A breaker set up installed in just about every house in the country :) (assuming the installation method isn't stupid and it isn't run in insulation in in a huge bundle) and the cable length isn't the same as the length of the country, etc

Think what I'm saying is 99% sure you want the standard thing, but check the releavnt bits of BS7671 to make sure, etc

This work is notifiable by the way

I hope that made sense, just got back from somewhat of a belated party, lol

Come off it, pal! You don't need your regs to calculate this! Just admit you're a DIY'er who's stuck!!

As evidenced by, "The manual says 6mm cable but doesn't mention the protective device."

Thanks Adam Obviously I knew it had to be below 40A because of recommended 6 mm cable size but wanted to check because of diversity and the extra socket.

Securespark as I said in previous posts dont make assumptions, no I'm not a domestic sparky but most of the work I do is industrial electics I do have 16th edition and have satisfied local authorities that I'm competant but would rather check than guess as this is not the kind of work I do everyday.

So are you or are you not a sparky ????????????[/quote]

At last No not a domestic sparky but I wouldn't say I'm a diyer either because of the work I do or maybe I'm in denial either way I'm only after advice.
