hi,
I've read a few things about the placement of the cooker saftey switch but can't find anything about it being a no no to place the switch on the wall above the wall units. Is this ok or not?

I'm aware the idea is that it should be easy accessed but I don't think above the wall units is too hard to reach

cheers for any help

So, standing on the floor, 600mm+ from the wall, you can reach the wall above the wall units, can you?

Are you extremely tall, or do you have arms like Twizzle?

BAS you must be of a certain age to remember that :?

Indeed I must.

Mind you - we didn't have a telly in 1957, and I'd have been too young anyway to remember it from then, so it must be later repeats that I saw.

BAS, I don't remember the series being repeated(they had a lot of new programmes in those days. Do you remember Torchie?

what do the regs actually say about the siting of such a switch?
132.15.1

It doesn't actually state any dimensions but, bearing in mind the Building Regulations' 1200mm height limit for new-builds, above a hung cupboard would hardly seem acceptable.

Would the OP propose having a ladder (or stair lift) permanently available or only allow extremely fit people into the house?

Actually, the proposal is so stupid it beggars belief.

But the "new build" guidelines you quote do not apply to all instances of switch placement.

So you may nott agree with where I'm suggesting to put it.. thats you thoughts.

as it's been pointed out I'm asking for advice rather than someones none too subtle insults.

I've looked at the building regs and as far as I can tell theres nothing saying I am not allowed to put the switch there.

From what I can tell I'm not allowed/supposed to have it in the cupboard - which some people do, but surley thats just as fiddley to reach.

Also, does it make any difference if my hob is gas? I mean even with the swtich off the hob still works (if the hobis already lit).

Any helpful comments would be most welcome. If you just want to have a go then save your poor fingers and don't even bother replying.

Yes, I realise that.
That's why I mentioned new builds.
You asked what the regulations say.

For those without the regulations:
132.15 Isolation and switching
132.15.1 Effective means, suitably placed for ready operation, shall be provided so that all voltage may be cut off from every installation, from every circuit thereof and from all equipment, as may be necessary to prevent or remove danger.
