Cooler Loft

Hi wondered if any one can help, me and my mate have nearly finished my loft conversion, but the one worry i have is how warm it gets up there.
can any one suggest a cheap and easy way of keeping it cool in summer, but i dont want fans cluttering up the space i have.

I'm having the same problem and I think the only way is a small air conditioning or maybe a fan in the wall to take out the hot air(?)
Another one I've seen are the ice cooler unit which you put your own ice cube in

Yes, I don't how they will perform, might too much hassle of topping up the ice department(?)

I have done all that and I even fitted 4 ceiling vents to the ridge tiles vent, it's still like a sauna up there because there is no air movement to move the hot air, I might have to fit a electric fan high up on the external wall for air circulation(?)

if you have ridge vents, can you add an air inlet on the shady side, low down? Convection cuurrents should suck fresh air in as the hot gushes out of the top.

I leave my loft hatch open in summer to suck air out of the house.

No I can't but having says that, I have a fire escape velux window low down and that is open, it works up to the point during the day but not at night time, the biggest problem I think it is, there's 3 computers up there which is not helping!

I leave my loft hatch open in summer to suck air out of the house.

I have done that for many years, I have a hinge trap door, I just connect a chain to 2 hooks.

I know where the bogey man does live, where it's dark and dirty but it's not in the loft

Anyway regarding cooling down the loft, during the day you can always keep the velux's open, keep the heating off, open the windows and open front/back door to allow air to flow ( you'll be amazed how much of a gust of air rush's up into the loft hatch when your in the loft ) when the front/back door is open daytime only mind if that does not work then take all your clobber off when in the loft

I have no window in my loft so thats out of the question. been looking at a little mobile air con unit but worried they may be too loud as i intend to have a projector up there so dont want any annoying noises when i watch a film...

making a ventilation hole will be cheaper and quieter. That way yoou will hear your wife when she climbs up to catch you watching your "home movies"

Just out of intrest does anyone what the average price is to have a velux window fitted in your loft by tradesmen, might go down that route if the price is right.

Depends what size velux's your after, an S06 is about £220-30 maybe more then you will need an flashing kit £30 +. and regarding installation lets say £ 100 depends what work is involved and who you get to install it.
