My hot water tank in the airing cupboard approx. 900 lg x 400 dia, fully lagged/blanket.

It has a thermostat strapped to it, some months ago I re-positioned it from halfway down to a third from the bottom. This greatly improved the amount of hot water stored with the demands of 4 grown ups washing/showers.

The boiler was renewed some 18mths ago for a force vented model, the BG recommended this rather than a combi. Some 4 years ago, a electric shower was fitted and found to be costly to yun and since removed. Now an adjustable flow/pressure power shower pump is fitted.

Now I thought of moving the thermostat further to within 150mm from the base, would this be a problem to the system.

Thanks

A third of the way up is the recommended place to put it because it's generally in the middle of the coil which is heating the water. Put it lower and the cold water coming in will constantly tell the thermostat that it needs to fire the boiler even though the rest of the tank is up to temperature (so it'll be too hot).

The absolute lowest you should go is just above the bottom connection of the pipe to the boiler but personally I think leave it where it is.
