hello

my landlord has asked me to fix some dents i supposedly left on some stairs of the apartment. its hardwood floors and the dents are shallow and very small. there are about 15 stairs. i was just wondering how much it would cost (in dollars) to fix these dents. she has given me an estimate of 1600 dollars which seems a bit expensive. any advice and help would be appreciated. thanks.

You can bring out small dents on wood such as pine by using a steam iron and brown paper. It works as I've done it. The water gets into the wood and makes it expand. However, I don't know whether this would work on hardwood. Mind you it might be worth a go if it saves you $1600!

A hammer dent (when you missed the nail head !) in the wood, believe it or not, you use your own saliva and it will bring the dent out and yet water will not work, don't ask me why ! Not sure it will works on old dents.

This is sometime why you see carpenter's spitting onto wood, I do get some funny look sometime
