Hi,

Would appreciate opinions on the expected coverage of blown-in Rockwool cavity wall insulation into a 3 inch cavity of a bungalow.

Reason I ask is because I've needed to drill a few holes right through the cavity wall for various reasons (on different walls, low down & high up) and about half the time, I don't come across any insulation - I've even stuck a thin metal hook through the holes and had a root around.

Does anyone have information on how complete the cavity is expected to be filled, assuming there's no significant debris within the cavity to hinder insulation flow? Someone must have tested coverage in the very beggining to prove the method worked, mustn't they?

My Rockwool insulation was installed by a reputable company, allegedly.

My mother had this done in her bungalow, and because the bricks in the inner skin of the apex in the loft were poorly built, I noticed that some of the insulation had escaped through gaps in the brickwork into the loft, so in her case, it had gone above the level of the habitable rooms.

I wonder if perhaps the insulation settles with time?

This FAQ's document from ciga explains how the wall is checked for filling and who to contact if you have concerns. Click here for the link

Stem - Thanks for the CIGA link. According to their FAQ's, coverage should be 'complete'. I don't think mine is. I need to decide whether to pursue the matter further or just forget it. The insulation was installed in 2002 so a long while ago.

I would like to have seen a bit of overflow/spill somewhere but not a trace, even in the loft.

Thanks for your help.
