Okay, well the main bedroom in our new house (1950's build) has an artex ceiling, which is in very poor condition - cracks and generally looks poor.

We want rid of it. I know that it may contain asbestos but that aside...

We plan to remove the artex (steam/scrap etc and some has already fell off!)
then fill the cracks in the plaster underneath. Skim if its in really bad condition. Seal and repaper.

Any one got any advice suggestions? We didnt want to overboard or over skim as the cracks present aren't just in the artex.

Cheers

What sort of pattern is the Artex?, The cracks may need screwing back tight to the joist above and re taping prior to a reskim to get best results.

Its of the stippled variety and bloody awful to be honest. A few areas have been patched up already which look even worse.

Didn't think about re screwing the plaster to the joists! will see how loose it is when all the paper is off!

Will try to get some useful pics up too!
