Have just applied dulux matt emulsion to two walls which had previously been finished with Polycell Smoothover on one wall and B&Q Smoothover on the other.

Had no complaints with the finish of the B&Q product - if anything it was better than the polycell. However, for some reason the paint has cracked on this wall. Nothing on the instructions about overpainting. Have tried lightly sanding and repainting but the cracks reappear. We've had a similar problem elsewhere in the house where vinyl silk was to blame but that is not the case this time. The smoothover was dry (had left it a couple of weeks before painting) and the paint was no thicker than on the other wall, which is fine.

Can anyone help? I don't really want to have to start again. Many thanks.

Did you thin the first coat?..it might have helped

No, didn't thin the first coat. Should I sand down the cracks and try a thinner coat on top perhaps?

Worth a try to be honest thats about all you can do now
