Hi Guys

I inherited the above from my late aunt, it has had little use
but recently after loading drier it wont start straight away, and its not overloaded

If I open drum door, and turn the drum a couple of revolutions, then
close the door the drier will start, this problem just occurs at random
not all the time, all filters etc are clean and emptied. any ideas on
where to look and rectifying ??

Thanks in advance for any guidance

Sounds like a faulty door switch or switch not being actuated properly when the door is closed.

Yes would have to agree but just to be sure you could remove the lid and start the dryer, if it does not turn give it a spin from the top to see if it then begins to spin, try turning in both directions.
Its possible the front bearings are worn and the drum is catching on the front assembly or could be a dying motor starter.

Is there a humming sound when it doesn't turn?
Is there heat generated at the rear, but don't let it stay on for long if its not turning as the heat element could quickly burn out.

Hi Guys

Yes when drier wont start, there is a buzzing sound, but i switch off straight away, then i revolve drum couple of times by hand, then retry generally it then works..and sometimes i open and close door as in above ...

Think your problem is the starter on the motor, 8uf capacitor.

Do as I said above to confirm. Lid off, turn on, if no spin turn by hand. If it starts turning repkace cap. About £8 but shop around as price can vary alot.

Hi Yardie

Thanks for that input what does the capacitor look like I can certainly
find motor ok ..?

Sorry for delay, usually either silver or white cylinder with 2 or 4 wires connected to one end. And usually fixed to the base inside.

Be sure to note how the wires are connected, they need to be re-connected to the replacement cap the same. Orientation of the cap is unimportant as they are not polarised but wiring is important.

Check out this item I found on eBay: http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=190768913319&alt=web

Probably cheapest and quickest delivery buying singularly. Also I have used the seller in the past by post and in person.

Check that yours has a thread on one end thats fixed to the base by a nut. If so, the above link is for you.
If not, you will have to search for ones that fix differently. I.e 2 retaining lugs that push through a hole in the base and open up on the other side to prevent it just pulling back out.

Before buying a cap there are other possibilities.

The way to see would be to remove the belt from the motor to see how freely the motor spins. Just turn gently to see if it 'catches' or not.
Either bearings dried out
Or
Circulation fan or heater fan coming off spindle and catching on the housing but normally you would hear it whilst running.

Whilst the belt is off turn the drum to be sure it 'freely' and easily turns. Front pads or rear bearing. But again you would normally hear it whilst running.
