Bosch Exxcel condenser drier - WTL6305

First problem was that the unit was tripping the electrics for the whole house. I had this before and the simple fix was to clean all the fluff from the inside. (basically the drum was shorting to the casing).
However, after all the cleaning, 10 mins into the first run, the machine alarmed for "empty filter". Now, the filter was spotless !!
Start again and 1 hour later it was still running. Problem - no heat.
I took the back off and the heater unit has a small component with a red re-set button (thermal trip ??) I pressed this and powered up again.
Now with heat !!
Then 10 mins later - same "empty filter" alarm and subsequently no heat.

I am guessing that the empty filter alarm occurs if the heat builds up. And the thermal trip is a secondary safety cut off.
But what is my problem ? The heater matrix is obviously working until it "cuts out".

Appreciate any help given.
