Hi,

I am in the process of cross battening our loft for insulating and boarding.

Not all of my cross batten are touching the loft joist.

Here is a picture to show what I am talking about.

It's actually the loft joists that are the problem because they have different heights (ranging between 65mm and 75mm).

What is the best way to deal with these gaps?

The only solution I can think of is to fill the gaps with bits of wood.

Any other ideas? Is this a common problem when cross battening?

Thanks in advance.

Bits of wood/ply or plastic shims, fairly common problem.

Thanks for your reply AronSearle. I really like the idea of using plastic shims, it'll be much easier getting the correct thickness than using bits of woods.

It's easy enough to buy various bits of strip wood in different thicknesses and apply as required depending on gap.
