Hi I work in a school that is approximately 100 years old, the front facing wall anr roof is edged by what I call flag stones (probably the wrong name I know). Recently we had really cold weather and only now some of the stones have started to blow and crumble. Resulting in pieces falling off the roof. I know the stones are very old and this sort of thing must be expected over time, but how can I seal the blown area and prevent or reduce the crumbling effect. Thankyou for any help.

Coping stones ;) I would seriously consider having them replaced, If the Bursar won`t go for it -make them stand underneath for all of break-time  Best to check if it`s listed or in conservation area. Probably a Mason`s job to advise really.
