Hi,

After a bit of advice. I got a guy in about 3 weeks ago to apply some Fine Texture K Rend to some new blockwork seating I've had built.

He did a K Rend undercoat one day, which looked neat, then he came back the next day and did the top coat but I don't think he did a very good job (beading is very visible, texture is patchy and K Rend particles are still coming off three weeks later even though I've been brushing it with a stiff brush occasionally as he suggested).

We've now had decking fitted around the seat which makes it tricky to completely re-render without damaging the deck.

I'm looking for a solution to the crumbling, patchy texture and visible beading. My plan at the moment is to coat with Sandtex stabilising solution, then a coat or two of paint like Johnstone's Silicone Masonry paint http://www.johnstonestrade.com/products/product-display/silicone-masonry

Does anyone have any other recommendations?

Hi, it looks as if you've had a "plasterer" in that isn't great with the k rend system. It isn't exactly something you can 'wing it'. The beads are supposed to be visible but look poorly applied. There also looks like there are a lot of lighter patches where he has missed when scraping back. Best thing to do is get a k-rend paint and paint over it. As its silicone based not your average paint will adhere to it. Although I have never had to use the paint myself I would advise this being your cheapest route to go down. Hope this helps

Thanks for your help. I can't see any paints on the K Rend website, have you seen it in a shop somewhere?

Hi Gareth,

I agree with alba the finish is not very uniform and patchy. It shouldn't crumble away form the beads either. Was it a very hot day? Also your supposed to leave it 24 hours between coat really so should have missed a day and then topcoated.

For the silicone paint look for a silicone paint by JUB your can find it at Amaroc in Swindon and loads of other places they use this a lot to patch up bad render jobs that have cracked. It can apparently cover up to a 4 mm crack.

Hope this helps chap.

Thanks, Ian. It wasn't very hot, but it did rain a couple of hours after he finished.

With a silicone paint would it still be a good idea to stabilise the surface first? I've tried the stabilising solution on a hidden area and it does stop the crumbling.

It looks like Jub Revitacolor Silikone would do the trick. Can't see it on the Amaroc site, will have to hunt it down from somewhere else.
