Cut purlin- big deal or not?

I had a metal chimney installed in my barn. The installers cut my purlin to make way for the insulated chimney.

I’m wondering if I should place a sister purlin to ensure the structural integrity is not compromised. Pics attached.

Thoughts appreciated.

It wouldn't take much effort to put a new piece next to the one that's been cut for your peace of mind, but why would you cut it in the first place?

I couldn’t agree more. I was surprised they cut it. I figure I will add a sister purlin and secure/provide additional support.

Thanks.

Bear in mind whatever you do that even a twin wall flue usually needs 60mm clearance from combustible material (or whatever distance the flue manufacturer specifies)
