this....
and this....................
For all my sheet metal cutting operations. Angle grinder is a last resort.
The nibbler and the slotting shearer will cut up to 1.2mm stainless steel. Specialist cutting and grinding discs are available for stainless steel.
I tried using a grinder and it tends to 'blue' the steel so be careful. I used a hacksaw in the end and it was a nightmare to cut. This was the vertical chimney part of the hood.
@cjard you are correct, when slid in together, the unit is 4cm too high. I think you agree that if I cut the inner section, the neatness of the cut isnt do important?
I don't follow your point oj the vents. The vents will mainly fall behind the outer piece with some showing. I though I established from an earlier response that vents are only required for circulation mode. I have a duct which terminates outside.
I'd assumed there were vent slots in the outer, and when the inner was pushed all the way as far as it would go, the vent slots were closed off by the inner. I was hence recommending to remove a piece of inner to expose hem again. Your latest post implies the vents are on the inner liner, so you'd need a need cut to remove a portion of outer, possibly at the top end where it meets some surface and can be made to look tidy with a bead of sealant
It doesn't. The guys are being helpful by providing extra info to the situation of cutting stainless in general, as it's not always easy to pick out the exact answers applicable to the original poster's situation if they haven't adequately explained everything. The exercise is then for the original poster to pick out the bits of info that are relevant to them.
It's a discussion forum after all; enter the discussion (frequently off topic)
If you'd prefer a site where targeted answers are delivered with minimum effort from the responder (because extra info from them is wasted effort in terms of getting points) you can try diy.stackexchange.com - people there tend not to go above and beyond with their answers
I appreciate all the advice. I'm certainly not knocking that but just wanted to understand whether its the inner or outer part that folks are suggesting I cut to size.
