Cutting off a plug under warranty

Has anyone had any problems with obtaining an appliance warranty repair because you cut off the mains plug to pass the cable through a small gap.

havent got a clue but a well wired up plug with no exposed wire between pin and cable and looped earth to pull out last would suggest good practice should say yes but as gtees are at the whim off the issuer with no legal standing its impossible to say
they can stipulate no tampering or repair other than qualified agent or what ever they like and dismiss your claim perhaps an email from them saying that its ok will clear it up??

but off course" fit for purpose and off merchantable quality " does have the backing off the law and this would exclude you correctly fitting a plug as non-contributory

From memory, there have been several judges that have ruled that cutting the plug off does not invalidate the warranty. I believe that the cases were prompted by people that had purchased TVs that they wanted to be wall mounted and the TVs didn't have leads that could be removed from the appliance.

Muddying the water... if you take advantage of your legal rights, it is the retailer that you need to take to the small claims court, and not the manufacturer.
