Hi,
1st post and as the username says I havent got a clue but I love to give things a go :-)

Anyway...
I am planning on getting a plasma and plan on mounting it on the wall. The walls are just plaster board painted with joists going up and across the wall. becasue of the weight of Plasma tv's(about 40kg) I am a bit worried about attaching it to the joists behind the wall. I want it to be a tidy job and hide all the cables behind the wall.

I am guessing I would cut the plaster board out, maybe put some more strength behind the walls, stick some more plaster board back up and fill the gaps with something.
I could pay someone but I really want to be able to say that "i did that all by myself" well sort of with the help from you guys.

Any help would be grrrrrrrrrreeeaaaaaat.

The stud wall should be fine for mounting the TV provided you screw into the timber with good sized screws! You should cut the plasterboard out as you suggested and fit some additional cross noggins to screw into. Fix the noggins with good screws, rather than just scew nailing, perhaps using a supporting block beneath the noggins fixed to the vertical stud for additional strength.

Make holes in the noggins for the cabling to pass through.
(I used cable trunking box from behind the TV and through the floor boards).

[nb. I'm presuming your studding is 3'' x 2'' (or even better 4'' x 2'')]

Thanks for the reply.
So when it comes to putting back the plaster board, do you think the edges where its been cut will be that noticeable. As far as the filling goes what would you use?

Thanks again.
