I am about to make a hearth using slate paving. I will need to cut the slabs, but the cuts will be against a brick wall & will not be visible.
What is the best way to cut the slate, is it using a diamond blade in a saw or using a disc cutter?

Cheap angle grinder and diamond disc..+ lots of protection, noise, dust etc.

Nigel, I have no problem getting tools (I work for a plant hire company), is just knowing what way to go about it. So given a free choice how should it be done. Thanks

never easy to cut a straight line. Mark it up, take it outside, to avoid the dust. Use a piece of batten as a straight edge to cut against.
