Damp marks on walls

Seen marks like that when someone tried to paint over greasy walls, if the walls are not prepared correctly they contamination spots thru the emulsion.

Good to know - although I believe the internal plasterboard walls are brand new. I'll ask however.

#1 Ask the vendor.

#2. Do not ask a "Damp proofing" company to do a survey as we have had a professional damp expert do one for our new cottage. Circa 1780 and we also have a copy of a survey done by a so called damp company. Talk about chalk and cheese. One is full of help the other is pretty much a complete nonsense. And yep looks like condensation here.

Agree with Polly damp proof companies always find damp, if they did not they would be out of business.

I went to a job yesterday where they had a blocked waste from the kitchen to a manhole, I jetted from the manhole to the kitchen to find the waste was disconnected under the house. I could hear my hose under the house from the air brick, I explained to the owner that the internal floor would need to be lifted and the pipe work repaired. They then told me that the house had 'rising damp' and have just had a new injected damp proof course.

All it was was a disconnected waste pipe.

"a clay lump building" I've just googled that term, and a PDF is available with details of clay lump construction and its remedial issues.
Its probable that what you see is penetrating damp.
If it was a simple matter of condensation then the sellers would, presumably, have covered the signs?
I'm not suggesting that its a serious issue just that it might need further work.
I would imagine that, like with Cobb construction, such issues are ongoing.
