Damp or mould?

Hey all, we found this behind one of our large frames downstairs. At first I thought it was damp but it's all pitted looking, could it be mold instead or something else? It's like half way up the wall and no where else.

Outside wall? Away from ventilation? Most likely condensation leading to black mould

It's pretty much smack bang in the middle of my house away from Windows. Yeh I thought it might be mold build up possibly. Any good solutions to stop it from reoccurring?

Better throughflow ventilation? If you have trickle vents open them. Treat the area with household bleach (if painted white)

The frame will have prevented adequate ventilation to that area.
