have a 1930s house which only seems to have a 50mm cavity which has been filled with foam insulation. have had damp so bad the render has blown on the inner skin wall. specialists have been in and repointed brickwork outside plus replaced defaced bricks. they have tanked inside up to 1.2m. their tanking is just a mortar mix with some kind of waterproofing chemical. i want to now battten walls with treated timber and then board.my questions are can i do this and if so whats the best way, materials etc. will it be best to use a membrane?

Ideally I would've painted the brick wall with liquid bitumen (SBR, Wickes Damproof Liquid Bitumen) and then rendered with sand/cement to be double sure etc.

Sounds like a 3:1 (sand:cement with waterproofer) which is suffice. However, if you penetrate behind the new render with nails or screws that will allow any damp a channel through however little it maybe.

How about dot and dabbing some plasterboards? Its quite easy and won't affect the render!

Hope this helps! :)
