Hi there.

I've been quoted £4,700 for damp proofing work to take place downstairs in my house. All the downstairs rooms are affected by the damp.

£1,500 of this quote includes "Specialist Rendermix re-plastering".

I was planning on replastering the walls anyway, to get rid of the wallpaper and paint them.

Does this £1,500 mean they'd replaster all of the wall? Or just the parts where they would put the damp proof course? And, if I'm having the walls replastered entirely anyway, should I not just have the whole thing done in one go? Little confused.

Thanks.

Rendermix is an additive for sand/cement backing - pre finish skim. It is a salt inhibitor and waterproofer. ( thanks to google ) I would also assume they would chop off and re render+ set up to 1 metre above the floor. I lso think you should get other quotes before proceeding.

If you're having the walls replastered, then why not get your plaster to do the san/cement render as well. As most companies use silcone cream nowadays, DPCs have come within the range of experienced DIYers. Just make sure he uses washed sand though, and use scrim to cover the joint when he does the finish plastering

Sounds like what I had done over 30 years ago to my first house. Had to have it done as part of my mortgage conditions. I hacked off the lower meter of plaster, the damp proof company drilled a succession of holes about 6" apart and injected some fluid into the holes and then a plasterer friend rendered and skimmed the walls and I remember him telling me to get washed sharp sand delivered, not the normal stuff.

Correct, but nowadays, they drill into the mortar course, and use a sealant gun to pump in the silicone cream, or you can get silicone rods as well. Much easier than the old injection machines beleive me.

Should use plastering sand it is pre-washed and a mixture of sharp and soft sand
