Hi all,

found a damp spot in our spare room 2 days before the plasterer was to arrive typically..

However, bit of a issue with it if any of you can shed some light? The spot (when the wallpaper was on) was damp to touch. However when we removed the paper the spot on the actual plaster is bone dry.. Is this normal or has someone split a drink  (would of been at least 4 weeks ago so doubting that theory..)

On the outside picture you can see our neighbours house (with their lovely kept roof) is in a sorry state. However where their downspout is, not near where the damp is i.e. at least a metre away.

Also above we noticed one of the dry verge tiles has come away, could this be the cause of the random damp spot so low down?

Thanks in advance

What is the plasterer doing in the room ? It doesn't look like a damp patch resulting in water ingress from outside to be honest.

No work started yet if totally honest. We was emptying it of furniture ready for the plasterer to start then noticed this. It was located behind a small chest of draws

Could be damp due to non movement of air around the chest of drawers. I think you will get away with it to be honest maybe with a bit of damp seal on it.

Shaun_H26, good evening.

Is the plaster wall a Plasterboard wall? what age is the property?

There is a possibility that the damp mark has been occasioned by Condensation? does the horizontal dark mark coincide with the spar on the bed? if so then the lack of air movement can, I stress CAN? cause condensation marks to form especially on North or West facing walls??

Ken.

Guttering seems blocked ? This would allow rain to pour down the external wall causing damp internally .

The damp patch is not in the same position as the gutter, any water would still flow down the room. Its likely to have a cavity wall also looking at the age of the house, so it would be difficult for this to be penetration from outside.
