Hello,

I lifted the linoleum in the bathroom to discover a dark brown 2 inch thick layer of bitumen (?) like flooring under it.
This was layed over the floor boards, I chiseld it and it makes/produces sparks(??!!). Once the smooth upper "crust" was chiseled away, the lower part is quite sticky and plastic/soft. Even if it must have been there for decades. The heavy victorian radiator that has been now seating on this floor for a few month has already left marks as the foot sank 1/8 inch into the floor!

This brown substance sits on a metal mesh layed on top of the wooden flooring.
Dose anyone know what it is? Does it sound like it contains any asbestos?

I want to paint it with a polyurethene "garage paint" suitable for concrete and wood flooring but I am not sure if it is suitable.
If it isn't, I don't have any idea what paint I could use..

Any help would be greately appreciated.

Many thanks,
Claudio
