Hi all

A workman left a piece of wet toilet soap on a solid oak window ledge in my toilet.

This has left a dark stain on the wood.

Are there any suggestions on how to remove the stain please?

Thanks :(

Stain will be from moisture, hot iron over tissue/paper towel will evaporate the water and be absorbed by the towel.

Probably deeper than just water staining.

Soap is alkaline - and alkali will darken tannins in wood like oak - Ammonia vapour (another alkali) is used to darken oak called "Fumed oak".

Oxalic acid is sometimes used to remove stains and lighten timber, being an acid which neutralizes alkalis and capable of dissolving iron oxides, which commonly stain wood.
