Hi all,

First time poster but by no means a stranger!

I recently built a box from plywood, trimmed with pine and was chuffed with it, given that my woodworking skills are more functional than pretty! I say "was chuffed" because I used some Ronseal natural oak Woodstain to bring it to life and I'm a bit disappointed with the finish......a little patchy with some streaks (I used a rubbish brush and perhaps rushed the job a little). I've gone over it with multiple coats in the hope that it will smooth out but to no avail. So, my idea is to buy a new tin of a darker tone and restain it using a cloth and taking a little more time to make it look right. I'm hoping this will grant me a "second chance" to make it look near perfect and hide the previous streaks/blotches.

Is there method to my madness?

Any ideas much appreciated!
Thanks!

I use danish oil to finish timber , can be mixed with oil based wood dye to give streak free finish. Unlike wood stain it cannot flake off as it is absorbed by the timber.
It can be applied by cloth or brush which makes it easier to apply to awkward shapes .
Woodstain needs to be stirred well before application and applied fairly quickly to avoid patchy finish.
