I am in the process of putting up a decking style handrail around a raised patio area. I have installed the 4x4 posts and am going to fit 4x2 rails. Can someone please advise on length and thickness of the screws to attach the rails to the post. I realise I must clearance drill the rails, but do I need to pilot drill the post at all or just screw straight into it.
