Evening all )

Have recently bought loads of decking and 7" x 2" joists from EBay. Joists are too big (would put deck above the door sills), so my plan was to halve them. 3.5" X 2".

I already have a patio down, so was going to lift every 2nd flag, giving joist support every 300mm. Does this sound structurally sound. I did a jump up and down test on some offcuts at this spread and it seemed fine..... When I tested across 600mm it snapped! (but loading will be spread better on a deck)

Any ideas greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

If you think your frame is stable and non-bouncey then the deck is fine. Personally, I always anchor into the ground with posts, to stop lateral movement. 3 and 1/2 inch timber is a bit light for a frame, IMHO.
