Hi.

I have an area of around 50m2 of decking that I would like to neaten up.

It has been down for around 2 years and has turned a weathered grey.

I would like to know what is the best product to use. I would prefer to use a sprayer as I already have it and it is a lot quicker.

Use a decking OIL, not a stain. Any major brand is OK.

Make sure the deck is nice and clean first.

IMHO

Hi.

Does it matter if it's oil based or not.

The sprayable decking oil that I was looking at said to just clean with water and detergent, so I'm guessing that this is water based.

Thanks.

WabbitPoo,

You say to use oil and not stain. Why is this?
I had planned to use a very light shade of stain on my decking
'Cuprinol Ultra Tough decking Stain Golden Maple'

I was told it would last longer than oil. Is this correct?

It will last a long time - too long, some say, as it will crack and flake, but just enough to look horrible and not enough to be able to remove it again when you hate the colour.

WabbitPoo,

I have decided to take your advice and go for an oil.

I did plan to get which ever B&Q had on the shelf, Ronseal or Cuprinol.

I have just read the product spec for the Ronseal Oil and it says it's water based.
Is this best avoided?

Ronseal deck oil is good stuff. Mine has been on for a couple of years and looks great. Go OTT with it as the deck will suck up the excess.
