i'm moving into a new house soon and i've been thinking of using the ocean and beach theme to decorate my bedroom but i dont want a overly beach bum type of bedroom.i want to use shades of blue and green. i would like a fresh feel to the room because i live in country with a hot climate. any decorating ideas and ideas for paint and furniture?

My Mrs. wanted a Beach and Ocean themed room after we had a holiday in Hastings ( here in UK ) so I did one with old fish nets hung on the walls and floored it with tarred planks - then threw around a few fake turds and empty coke bottles - Looked just like any beach on our Sceptered Isle  Actually the best bit @ Hastings was the genuine Banksy Mural on the sea wall :!:

To achieve a sophisticated coastal look without the 'beach bum' cliché, the key is restraint and 'visual cooling.' Since you're dealing with a hot climate, swap bright tropical colors for a muted, mineral palette—think 'Sea Salt' green or dusty slate blue paired with crisp white to keep the room airy. For furniture, choose light woods like white oak or whitewashed rattan and opt for breathable linen bedding to improve airflow. Most importantly, avoid heat-trapping synthetics on the floor; a high-quality jute or sisal rug adds that elegant 'sandy' texture and anchors the organic feel without looking kitschy. Finish with a few glass accents to reflect light, and the room will feel curated and breezy rather than like a souvenir shop.
