Hi,
I've had a bit of a central heating crisis this evening. I needed to put extra water in the boiler as the pressure had dropped. I opened the valve to let the water in and, after the water went up to 1 bar I shut the valve only to have the flaming thing break in my hand! :(

By the time I had found a pair of mole grips and emptied out the cupboard and got the stupid thing turned off the pressure was up to 4 bar

1) will running the central heating at 4 bar damage anything or cause a catastrophe?

2) How do I let off the pressure to get it back down to 1 bar?

Thanks for any help you can offer

If you take the front panel off just above and to the left of the pump you will see a red knob with 3 bar and an arrow on a sticker on the top. On this valve there is a small grey tap, open that with something to catch the water under it and away you go.....if you don't fancy that just open a radiator bleed and catch it from there.

Might be worth getting the pressure relief valve inspected, it should have opened at around the 3bar mark.

To release the excess pressure, open a draincock, or you could do it from a radiator bleed valve, but this could take some time. Relieve the excess pressure before firing up the boiler.
