I hope someone can help.

We've been away for 5 days over Xmas and when we came back earlier this evening our boiler had stopped. We've pressed the reset button and the boiler fires for 10 seconds and then stops. It won't restart immediately, but after leaving it a few minutes, and resetting it again, it fires again for 10 seconds and then stops.

It's a Trianco Redfyre TRO 15/19 - oil fired. I've checked the oil level in the tank and there's loads in - we only had it filled up 2 weeks ago.

Is there something simple I can try?

Many thanks!

It sounds as if the flame detection circuit is not detecting the flame.

I am not sure about your particular model but they often use a photocell to look for the flame. The detection window can become dirty or get condensation on it.

Unless you are terribly confident of your capabilities I suggest you enlist a professional to deal with it.

Thanks for this, very helpful. I think I've located the photocell (does it look like a fuseholder with a tiny piece of glass in the end?) If so I gave it a rub with a cloth but unfortunately this didn't seem to make any difference.

Any other time I'd ring an engineer but it's a bank hol tomorrow and I doubt I'll be able to get anyone round to lool at it.

It depends if its firing 4 10 seconds or if its trying to fire 4 10 seconds. Has it a chimney or a flue through the wall. if through the wall is there heat coming out during the 10 seconds. Its normal 2 have to wait between lockouts. Do u have a remote fire valve where the oil enters the property out side. Where's oilman. or is it just a name.
