DeWalt laminate trimmer runs at max speed all time

This trimmer has speed adjustment dial.

With the trimmer on (at usual low speed), I turned the machine upside down, only for it to instantly go to max speed (speed dial still set at low speed).

Since then, the trimmer is always spinning at max speed (speed dial does not work). With the exception of random few seconds every now and then when it actually runs at slow speed, but any movement of the trimmer will make it go back to 100% speed.

Any ideas what caused this? It had less than 30mins usage in its lifetime before this happened (DeWalt DWE6005)

Most likely the speed controller has shuffled off this mortal coil...

It may be worth having a look inside to see if you have any loose contacts and maybe blow out the area around the speed control wheel with compressed air. Looking at the parts parts drawing it looks like the speed controller (part #48) is a single expensive unit (at over £100) with the only replaceable parts being the speed wheel (part #50) and its' O-ring (part #40), so if the speed wheel isn't the issue you will have an expensive repair job on your hands
