I have direct unvented system with Megaflo. Just noticed that hot water is heating above usual temperature. I suspect motorised valve failure (has happened before) but not sure how to prove it. Any suggestions?

If the zone valve at the bottom of the cylinder (there must be one) has a tell-tale indicator, see if it's stuck in the open position. If so, the hot water is heating all the time the CH is on (in this weather, a lot of the time!).

Actually I don't think it's the valve this time. I've just removed the valve body from the pipe and the lug it sits on is at right angles to the pipe, which I assume is 'off'. Does that only leave the thermostat on the cylinder?

Its very important that the motor valve returns to the closed position when there is no power applied.

Cut power and observe valve! Its part of the safety requirements and checks on a service.

The thermostat is unlikely to have failed but its always possible.

Has anyone left an electric heating element on? Again the secondary safety stat should take care of its overheating.

Remember working on unvented should only be done by those who hold the relevant certificate!
