Hello,

I bought some 1mm 2 core and earth cable from B&Q thinking that I could install a new light and switch, then cover up the walls with plaster board so I can continue with renovations and get an electrician in at a later date to connect it to the mains and do a couple of other things.

Can I use this cable for both the lights (halogen down lights) and the switch?

Any help is very much appreciated.

1.5 mm would have been better, but yes you can.

you will also need to take a cable to the previous light, so he can connect it to a supply, or you can take it to the consumers unit if its easier, or to existing light

1mm is fine, altho 1.5 is more commonly used (stronger and less chance of breaking at joints)
