Dimmer not dimming

I have changed a standard light switch for a dimmer switch

The dimmer is a 1 gang 2 way

The connectors are L1 L2 & (~)

The wires in the wall are 2 reds and an earth as expected

The on/off works but it won't dim, any ideas?

which terminals did you connect the 2 reds to?The live should have gone to ~ & the switch wire should have gone to 1 or 2, it seems you may have them the wrong way round or your dimmer is faulty.Also what sort of fitting are you trying to dim? It is not possible to dim low energy lamps & some low voltage transformers.

if it went bang at your first attempt you need a new dimmer
