Can anyone help?

I am replacing a dimmer switch in a bed room.

Its a 2 way switch and i have connections as follows:

C, L1, L2, 1 earth connection

I only have 2 red wires and an earth. What do i connect to which terminal.

Many thanks

One of the reds to C, the other to L1 - it shouldn't matter which red you use. Obviously, earth (CPC) to the earth connection, with earth sleeving if it doesn't already have any...

It may be a 2-way switch but you are only using it as a one way switch.

So, the red that came out of the C terminal on the old switch goes into the C terminal on the new switch.
The red that came out of the L1 terminal on the old switch goes into the L1 terminal on the new switch.

Couldn't be easier, hey?

But I'll bet you didnt note which terminals the reds went into the old switch? Thought not.

Its convention that the live feed red goes into the C but in practise it doesnt matter. So, 1 red in L, one red in L1.

Do post back to say if it worked.

PS. TURN THE POWER OFF BEFORE DOING ANYTHING!!

Glad everthing worked out ok, but does raise the question as to whether you should be messing about with your electrics
