Hi, there. Can anyone help me please.

I want to fit a dimmer switch.
I have 2 wires ( each with a Live / Neutral / Earth ).
the dimmer switch i have is a 1 way with a L1 and a C.
Where do i put each of the wires.
Or have i not the correct dimmer switch

Many thanks

You have a cable that has three wires.
One is earth
One is live
One is the switched live

None of the wires is a neutral. The wire colour doesnt mean its neutral just cos it is blue (or black). If it has been wired properly the blue/black cable should have a brown or red sleeve on it to show it is really a live conductor.

Lesson over.

Connect the brown (or red) conductor to the C
Connect the blue (or black) to L1
If you are using metal switch connect the eartn to the earth terminal on the switch, otherwise connect it to the handy earth terminal on the back box.

Edit the above: just ready yr post again....
Do I assume u have two cables? Do these go to an existing switch? How are they connected??

Sorry for the confusion, let me try to explain further.

Ive been doing my house up room by room. Come to the conservatory to find

2 Cables going into the light casing. Each cable has a Red / Black / unsleeved cable with green tape over part.
Therefore I have 2 Reds / 2 Blacks and 2 unsleeved with green tape.
Currently all cables are in plastic terminal blocks ( As I found it ).
So I have no idea of their original wiring.
Hope this can assist you in helping me

Thanks

OK some questions:
Do you have a multimeter?
Are there lights in the conservatory already? How many?

Before proceeding with fitting the dimmer we should try & get it working with a regular switch. Dimmers tend to act as very expensive fuses if you treat them badly.
Do you have a spare light switch to pl;ay with?

No I don't have a multimeter.

There is 1 light in the conservatory

I do have a spare light switch. It has a Common / L1 / L2.
