Dimming Halogen Spot Lights

I've just had four 240v spot lights installed by an electrician on a dimmer switch. When they are dimmed, they buzz like a swarm of angry wasps!

Is this normal or is something wrong with the installation such as the switch not being up to the load?

it is normal, but you could try a different brand of switch
