Been out this evening to megger a Dimplex CXT18 for a mate, he got it on freecycle and wanted me to check it out, all fine on earth and resistance, so put a plug on to check it warmed up properly before hard wiring it in.
Now there is a wire linking the thermostat to the overheat cutout and sleeved with fibre sleeving - this started to smoke , the smoke abated after the dampness and dust had been driven out, but the wire still ran very hot, checked the resistance and it is 0.16 Ω , a look at the cut end of the wire makes me think it is not copper but nichrome, has anyone out there any knowledge of this model (I've fitted them but never taken much notice of the gubbins) is this a resistance wire that is supposed to heat up
