Discontinued paint

I managed to buy a tester roller of my Gentle lavander paint in Matte form from Dulux's site for about £2. This was enough for my needs.
Now, how does one turn matte to silk? Vaseline or baby oil ?

Sorry for coming to this thread a year late!

I have just painted my room with an old supply of Dulux Gentle Lavender and found it to be exactly the colour I have been looking for. Unfortunately, two coats didn’t quite cut it, so I went on the hunt only to find it has indeed been withdrawn from the shelves as a ready mixed paint.

Seeing that it was available as a mixer, I rang Dulux to ask if it was likely to be a different shade. The answer was no, not really. This was far from the truth! I paid £40.95 for a 2.5 litre tin from the Dulux Decorator Centre, only to find it to be a completely different colour. My walls are now covered in a horrible shade of deep, overhanging purple. I have contacted Dulux for a refund. Beware!

Before painting any room, always ensure that you have enough to paint all the walls.
I also hit the price barrier like you and did not proceed any further.

Try this instead : https://www.leekes.co.uk/dulux-2-5l-silk-paint-lavender-quartz

Dulux have changed the shades to "bring them closer to it's digital standard and the true colour"

Thank you.

I have tried every lavender under the sun, including the lavender quartz, which I find rather grey. I came across the tin of Gentle Lavender at the back of a relative’s cupboard. It didn’t occur to me that I wouldn’t be able to get another tin!

Back in 2019 I had to repaint a customer's hall stairs and landing. The customer only had a couple of litres left in an old tin. She purchased three 5 litre tins of the same Dulux Trade matt emulsion (approx £180). The new paint was very different in colour.

I rang Dulux and explained the problem. They explained that either the old or new pigment ratio may have strayed from the correct colour as each new base is released. Two days later, the customer had vouchers for three new tins. I expected Dulux to make me jump through hoops but the process was straight forward, quick and painless.

If you pop back in the DDC, ask to look at the big fanette colour swatch. It will show you the colour ratios, by that I mean that if you want a lavender that it less grey, you steer clear of the grey based part of the fan. Sorry, I making a fudge of explaining this- the fan, if you were to open it fully would be a circle of colours (with "parent" colours closest to the centre), each of which deviate from the base CMY colours. Someone in store will be able to explain it more clearly.

Thank you so much. That’s really helpful. I’m in touch with Dulux, so I’ll see what they come up with!

I ordered the Gentle Lavender Matt paint from Dulux ( they do tester pots ) last year and that was a perfect match.
Worst case scenario, sand down all the walls and settle for matt instead?

Thank you!

How thoroughly do you have to sand down silk to paint Matt on top?

Use a rough sandpaper followed by a smooth sandpaper. The surface needs to be dull so that the matt paint sticks onto it. Being silk, you may also find that it rips off when using your sandpaper.

Mind you, I am not a specialist by any means.
