Dishwasher issue

Hi everyone, new member here.

I have recently moved in to a house with a built in dishwasher. The previous occupants didn't use rinse aid at all or salt. So I've bought salt but I've noticed there is no water in the salt compartment?! The model is a Candy CDI 1012/B.

Any suggestions??
