Dishwasher not filling but element is hot! (Electrolux E424)

Hi I'm afraid I don't have the model & make to hand but I have a dishwasher which worked fine until recently.
Now, it sounds like it is runnign okay, but doesn't fill with water

. However, the heating element in the bottom still gets really hot and it appears to be going through a full wash cycle.
Any suggestions why it may not be filling up?

Update: the model is Electrolux EL424!
