how do you tell if a diverter valve's body can be changed or if the head can be changed without having to drain down (actuator i think it is called).

some have a button on the side, drayton.
some have a pimple on the lid, honeywell
some unscrew.

ok thanks. what i really mean is how do i know the head (electric) part is at fault and not the body (ball part) ?

what valve is it ?
and whats it doing to make you think it may be faulty ?

if you move the lever on the end and its either stiff or seized then i would remove the cover and look into it further or remove the actuator if poss and twist the spindle.

sounds like it maybe seized or jammed inside.
what make/model is it ?

you can try removing the cover and have a look.
can you hear the motor trying to wind it across if in heating mode ?
or is the casing hot to feel ?

yeah the case feels quite warm.

it is honeywell - does this make much of a diff?..

sorry, maybe the ball is jammed as you say. do i need a whole new valve?

if its not moving i would take it off calling for heat and it will cool down.
then i would remove the lid and have a look.

if the silver lid has a pimple on the end of the casing it can be changed.
but useally if they seize its the spindle so whole new valve.

ok

they do work ok even doing 3 port valves.
