DIY Karndean

I want to add a Karndean (or Amtico) floor in my bathroom. The problem is the bathroom is only 2.5sqM and the fitter insists on a full day rate for fitting taking the total cost to over £400. I reckoned that I could do the job DIY for less than half the price so I'm gonna give it a go.

Any tips?

Theres plenty of info on leveling and adhesive but not much on the actual fitting e.g. how to cut the tiles. I presume a steel ruler and craft knife?

I haven't fitted the bottom row of wall tiles yet so was also wondering how best to approach this. i.e. Tile to (existing) floor, then fit ply and fill gaps between ply and wall tiles (what with?), then fit the vinyl tiles.

OR

Fit the floor and tile to the floor leaving a 3mm gap for silicone sealant.

Any tips/advice much appreciated.

If it's an amtico floor, then it is really a pro job. It's expensive flooring, so you could be cutting your nose off to spite your face so to speak.

My essential tools for fitting amtico are a pair of tin snips or aviation shears for cutting and for tricky bits and curves a hot air gun is great for softening it (heat should only be applied to the underside).
