Any legal requirement which has to be adhered to or, which prevents a DIY'er from installing TMVs into the hot water system of a residential property ?

Define residential, your own 3 bed house, old peoples home ................

Yeah, sorry; my own home and that of an elderly relative, both private residence & 2 bed.

1. Nothing to stop you doing it.
2. You need reasonably balanced hot and cold pressures to work properly. Manufacturer's literature normally specifies out of balance limits.
3. You do need to follow the instructions re. testing and setting temperature.
4. They are meant to be serviced annually.
5. It's not obligatory, but you you could fit full bore isolation valves to both inlets if you want an easier life when they fail in a few years time.

Thanks for the prompt and very informative reply; I'd planned to use isolation valves

However, you say the hot & cold water must be reasonably balanced ?
Currently, at my elderly Father's house, when a hot tap is opened, for a split second, the hot water is scalding; I have to keep reminding my Father to allow the water to run for a second or two before putting his hand under it, hence the TMVs.

Once the initial scalding water stops, the hot water, dispite the temperature setting, is either too hot or not hot enough, will this effect the functionality of TMVs ?
