I'm looking to get 3 new connections, but Central Networks are asking for a ridiculous amount. I initially got a quote for the three meters last year and was quoted £15,000, and found out that perhaps some network strengthening was taking place to justify the cost. I put in a quote for just one connection - you guessed it £5,000.

I paid around £300 each for four gas connections a few years back - but went directly to National Grid rather than to a fleecing power conglomerate (BG wanted £12,000).

Has anyone got any tips to get this down similarly? I've yet to find a contractor who is authorised and willing to do the work.

I'd try asking for a fully itemised quote including details of what items on the quote are "contestable" (I think this is the right term for it) so you can chose to get them done by someone other than the electrity supplier.
