Do I now need a scarifier

Been cutting this gardens grass for 5 years but two weeks ago & today I found it harder to cut it. I understand it was its first cut two weeks ago but after I cut the grass I see the deck which is on its highest setting touching the grass etc.
When pushing the mower it’s like I’m on the beach & a real push is needed to go forward. Sometimes the engine surges & wheels judder when trying to go forward.

I’m sure it’s down to the yellow / green stuff in the lawn. Moss ?

Hence the question Do I need a scarifier.
Never had this issue before & the garden after this one cut fine with no fuss.

Yes, that's moss. Moss kill and then scarify, but it will make it look awful before it recovers.

Get moss killer on, if it’s bad copper sulphate is good and it greens up the grass.

It’s spongy to walk on & now trying to push a mower is getting harder due to it sinking into the moss.

It's exactly what you want, see if a local garden centre sells 'lawn sand'

Sounds like I need to spray it with something. Moaned last week I didn’t cut all the primroses down. Customer wasn’t in so I left them all in a nice mine but that was wrong so scarifier it isn’t

Mosskill liquid is available.
Once you kill the moss, it turns black. You then have to take it all out, the best tool for that is.....a scarifier.

This is a standard lawn maintenance procedure, do they want a nice lawn or not?

Tell him to watch Daniel Hibbert lawn expert on you tube. If he wont go for it now his lawn will only get worse. Iron sulphate to die back the moss. Once this cold snap is over Scarify to remove the moss and thatch. Scalp the lawn on lowest setting then top soil to fill any lumps and bumps, over seed and cover with peat or fleece to keep birds off. Water 3 times daily until it grows and it will look like Wembley by the middle of May.

It will look worse before it gets better but scarifying alone will improve it and in 2 or 3 weeks it will have recovered provided there is sufficient grass and no bare patches hence the reason to overseed.
